Endometrial Biopsy

An endometrial biopsy examines a small sample of the endometrium, which is in the lining of your uterus. This evaluates for any premalignant cells that may be causing your abnormal bleeding.

The biopsy is a simple procedure, but may cause some cramping, similar to a period. It is recommended that you take 600mg of Advil or Motrin 1 hour before your appointment. The entire procedure takes about 15 minutes.

A pregnancy test may be done prior to the procedure.

You may have vaginal spotting after the procedure. If you continue to have cramping, take 400mg of Advil or Motrin every 4 to 6 hours as needed.

If you get your period before your biopsy appointment, please call the office to cancel and reschedule earlier in your cycle the following month.
